During Covid when local Armistice Day ceremonies were not always possible, GWR worked together with the Veterans Charity to organise “Poppy Trains”. These services took wreaths from local communities to Paddington Station to be laid at the War Memorial in the station as part of GWR’s Remembrance service.

The Poppy Trains have been very popular, and GWR were asked to continue to run them, which they were delighted to do. This year marks their fifth year, and GWR very much wanted our community to be represented.

This year, GWR are specifically commemorating the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in their 200th year honouring their contributions during wartime as well as the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The service was held today (Monday 11 November). GWR’s Poppy Train called at Stonehouse station today and Stonehouse Town Council’s wreath was carefully collected and carried to London and placed at the war memorial on platform 1, creating a display of remembrance for all the communities served by GWR’s Intercity trains.
