Ship Inn Regatta

Did you know that back in the 1890s, Stonehouse hosted an annual canalside regatta featuring greasy pole climbs and duck hunts? And that if you fell in the water you ended up becoming ‘Mayor’ for the day!
On Sunday 2nd August, Ship Inn Community Space – Spice, are officially reviving this historic tradition with a modern, pirate-themed twist!
Join them for a fantastic day of family fun, live music, and activities on and off the water.
When: Sunday, 2nd August
Time: 11am – 3pm
Free admission
Here is what they have lined up for you:
On the water
Their canoe taster sessions are now fully booked, but don’t worry, spaces may become available! Come and spectate – they’ve got a commentator lined up and our Mayor will be on hand for medal ceremonies!
You can still get out on the water and join the fun. Cotswold Boatmobility will be there with their fantastic Katakanus – stable, twin-hulled boats that are virtually impossible to capsize and safe for all ages. No pre-booking required for these, just turn up all day to try them out!
Canalside live music stage
Flying Guitars: Beautiful Spanish guitar instrumentals
Big Sound: Upbeat folk tunes and David Bowie covers
Harry Browns Boys: Brilliant sea shanties straight from Bristol (the birthplace of our very own ‘Blackbeard, the pirate’) to get everyone singing along!
For the little pirates
– Children’s games hosted by Active Lifestyles gym
– Pirate-themed arts and crafts with local signwriter Mark Amis
– A land-based duck scavenger hunt
Fancy dress competition
Dust off your tricorn hats and eyepatches! Fancy dress is highly encouraged, and they have special prizes waiting for the most convincing pirates on the day. Ooh arrh!
Come along to relax by the canal, enjoy nature, celebrate their beautifully restored community space.
